Australia and Papua New Guinea have today recommited to their long - standing partnership to strengthen leagl institution and legal capbility.

This was sealed by Australian Attorney - General's Department (AGD) Secretary Chris Moraitis and PNG Department of Justice and Attorney General (DJAG) Secretary Dr Eric Kwa signing a refreshed memorandum of understanding between their institutions.

The institutional partnership between AGD and DJAG was formalised in 2017 and builds on many years of Australian support. Through the partnership, AGD and DJAG have worked collaboratively to progress important legal reforms, build core legal skills, and strengthen organisational governance. 

“This signing reconfirms our joint commitment to strengthen institutional relations and enhance people-to-people links between Papua New Guinea and Australia,” Secretary Moraitis said. “Given the wide range of important law and justice issues both countries are facing, our close institutional partnership will continue to be an important part of Australia’s cooperation with PNG.”

Secretary Kwa said, “We highly value our partnership with the Australian Attorney-General’s Department, and look forward to further legal cooperation that will benefit both our countries.”
